Link in New Window
« on: January 06, 2004, 07:27:47 pm »
here a strange problem that popped up out of nowhere on my PC.

If I click a link that is supposed to open in a new window, nothing happens. If i click a link and hold down the shift key, nothing happens (supposed to open in new window).

I just noticed this last nite on an ebook site, and just thought there coding was bad. Hmmm..

Fixed it. It was a very pain in the arse to not have links open in new windows.

I figured I could reinstall IE6 since i have it on CD. But it wouldnt reinstall because the IE i had installed was newer.

And of course IE cannot be uninstalled  from the AddRemove that comes with XP. You can get a third party remover to do this though. AddRemove Plus 2003 will do the trick.

I did it through the registry by modifying one DWORD.

In the Registry Navigate to:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Active Setup\Installed Components\{89820200-ECBD-11cf-8B85-00AA005B4383}

and modify DWORD IsInstalled. Set the Value Data to 0 and exit. Reboot and it will be gone. It will also ask you to clean up settings and such.

I reinstalled IE and I am good to go....
