Palm Programs

I got this Palm Vx with a greyscale lcd screen and 8 megs of memoree running Palm OS 3.5 (I think) that I just pulled out of mothballs...

What cool software ya all got? Preferabley freeware...

Looking for a good Doc reader. I used to use one called C Spot Run as it had a really cool auto-scroll feature but it looks like that one is gone.

Any cool games / apps / links that you all are aware of?

What OS is that running? Mine is 3.5 (I think). I like the Palm mainly for a few games and reading. I used AvantGo, the web browser, at one time, but it was so slow and all that I just decided that the Palm was not too good of a thing for web stuff.

For reading, I used to hit Memoware...

Memoware has a bunch of Gutenberg like books and all availible for reading on the Palm. I have a Windows program that will convert ANY TEXT FILE to a Palm readable doc. I played with it some and managed to get it to make docs that didn't line break weird.

I nailed that Tetris... thanks for the heads up! Also nailed Video Poker and a Chess game. Reinstalled my Vexed game and BJ's Blackjack.

The games plus my Docs of Frankenstien by Mary Shelly, The Jargon File by Eric Raymond, The Hacker Crackdown by Bruce Strerling, and Approaching Zero by Mung and Glough should keep me busy nicely.

Also, with Mozilla 1.3, they have an option on install that allows you to sync up with Mozilla's address book.  If you install it then the Palm will link up with Mozilla instead of Outlook or OLE... Interesting stuff.

I am not big on Card games, Rob might be into that solitaire game for his girl.

oh and a question about eBooks, i downloaded an ebook, Flappers and Philosophers by Fitzgerald, from Usenet, and I can read it, but it has HTML tags, would reader would i need to able to read HTML and non HTML?

No idea... the one I have been playing with does text files. I nail crap off of Gutenburg and convert to Palm docs that my reader handles, or I go to Memoware and look for palm doc format.

Maybe they have a reader that can handle your book format.

i think maybe that one file i got was corrupt, i havent been able to duplicate the same problem.

i think i am going to stay with TinyBookReader, mainly because i can scroll with the buttons. I dont remember of CSpotRUn had that feature though.

Lot of ebooks on usenet, should check it out.

CSpotRun has a scroller and all... also allows you to change orientation so you can turn the Palm on it's side if it is more convenient to you.

In an effort to beat this thread to death, back in the day I used to use an App Manager called Handscape, which every fourth time you used it, it would remind you to pay them $10 because it was shareware. How annoying...

Basically, an app launcher is a GUI... Handscape was a tabbed interface that had a trashcan to it and a few extras and all... and I just found this one - and it is free:

Another tabbed interface and very easy to work with. Not as many features as the Handscape, but it works well. Also allows for file arseociations for hacks and docs. Pointed mine to my CSpotRun for docs and now all the docs are listed with the proper app icon.

Nifty... Palm computing is definately cheaper than it used to be. A few years ago they had next to no freeware for the dang thing. Kinda like a Mac nowadays...

i installed MegaLaunch the other night from megasoft2000.com, and i kinda sorta liked it. had a lot of the features you speak of. but i uninstalled it.
