Games ??

I need help ........ i want to put on my computer old games ........like in Missouri my friend did something to his computer and put all these games in there....so when he was not there i would get in there and play them......they were old games but fun.  Like Contra,Galaga,Dig Dug,After Burner, Etc Etc.... i went to some web site and its kinda confusing its called Mame it stands for something...........its like emulating.... plz help just some pointers would help. Multiple Arcade Machine Emulator

its late, so this will be brief.

You need MAME to play these games. But the games you can not get from the same place you get MAME www.mame.net that is illegal.

so you get MAME from the site, and then you look for the games. The games are called ROMS. So say you wanted Contra, you would have to look for Contra ROMS. I would look on the net first, then on Kazaa if no luck.

Download that MAME crap read some of the Documentation, or READ ME files.

i have only emulated on game, Pac-Man, and this was awhile back. but it was the same idea.

check it out, post what you find out. i must sleep.

If you can ignore the legal implications, Mame is a killer emulator. It allows you to play the actual arcade game roms and simulate putting in quarters and the like... very cool. Only hook is that in order to use the roms you are supposed to own the arcade game.

Good one Jay.............but no i just dont have the patience to do it........... I cant do things for my self when it comes to computer stuff.......i need for like you or someone as smart as you to figure it out and show me how to use it.  Like the Palm pilot thing ......dude im a pro now.  but if had never shown me i would of given up.  or Shoot it. i took a quick stab at it.

go back to mame.net, click on Downloads, then click on Other Ports, then the first one called MAME32, it will link you to another site, then click on Downloads, then decide wether you want MAME with an installer or without, the installer did not work for me. so i got the zipped one.

before you download it will ask you to sign in.
for the log in use the first three letters of my real name and my last name and as the parseword put YOUR four letter parseword, of course this only works for Rob, everyone else must register their own crap.

Once installed or unzipped, start the program, if you unzipped it, go to the folder where it was unzipped, write this down when unzipped, or remember where you did so, i unzipped in my documents. Once the program is loaded hopefully it will be familiar to you from when you said your friend had it. You will see a list of Games. You can not play these yet. You need to Hunt Down the ROMS. I found a few on the net. Pac Man and another.

Once you find the ROMS they will be ZIPPED. Dont unzip them. Save the Zipped File inside the folder called ROMS where you unzipped MAME or installed it.

Once the zip is in there, refresh the MAME program by hitting F5 on your keyboard. Next scroll to the name of the game. If it is the right ZIP the little box next to the name of the game will be Green. This means it is ready to be played. Double Click it.

then follow the onscreen instructions.

to play the game you have to insert a quarter, do this by hitting the Five key.

get it? got it? good.

Thats why you so Smart Jay.  Really Man i dont know anyone else that as good in comp than you are.  I take my cap off to you.  I wanted to install Mame on my comp instead of having 6 games on a CDR that i got from you.  BUT I dont remember what that program was that you were using.  Was it X news?  Trillian ? i dont remember anways i clicked on X news and nothing poped up.  I will figure it out thanks for everything Jay.

Xnews was where you were getting the games from on my computer.

when you open Xnews, click on the bottom where it says All, then type in MAME. it should then take you the list of groups where you can get the games.

i think the name of it was.

remember, once you start downloading the ZIPS for the game you have to put those ZIPS in the ROM folder.

just copy the entire i cd we made here to your computer. its the same as downloading it.

this MAME crap has turned out to be a cool thing to carry around to kill time with at school on the laptop.

being playing Ms. Pac-Man like crazy, I suck though, i cant even get to The Chase, my friend Lydia(dazy_duke) kicks my arse all the time!
