HD Gone Bad. Reverted to Old PC
« on: December 13, 2007, 09:46:36 pm »
So my main PC at home is an HP Media Center PC Z545. It is great because it has three tv tuners and it is what i use to watch tv and or movies. Well. lately, in the middle of the night it has been locking up on me. So i got to worry about the Hard Drive going out. I backed up My Pictures, which is the most important, and started to wait for this thing to die. Well, it kinda did already. It will not boot up anymore. It gets half way thru the log on process and it dies. I get the blue screen of death and memory dump errors.

I blogged about this machine when I got her.Check it out. She is pretty to look at.

Prior to this the machine was running slow. Super slow. Audio would slow down to slo motion and video would skip. Even when recording it would skip. Very annoying.

Its a 200gb  drive that is faulty. I have seen a 500gb at Office Depot today so until I can get the fundalation to get that I reverted back to the first PC I ever got. It is a Gateway Select 700. I got this thing some time in 1998 or 99. Maybe even sooner than that. It is running a 700mhz AMD Processer with 512MB of Ram and let me tell you this thing runs fast. A whole lot faster then the HP Media PC which is a 3ghz with 512 of ram. This thing is running XP Media Center now but it has no TV Tuners so that is useless.

First thing I loaded up was Firefox, then Google Talk.

I took the day off tomorrow and I was worried I wouldnt have a PC to work with incase I needed to log on.

I keep this PC on at all times as a file server and its headless. If I ever needed anything on this I would RDP into it or just browse the network. This is the first time it has had a monitor and a keyboard attached to it.

So anyway. Hope it works out til I get that HD for the HP.
