I figure with all this Virus crap going on, more then usual anyway, its about time i do a virus scan.
I use Panda Active Scan:
http://www.pandasoftware.com/activescan/com/activescan_principal.htm
Its a free, web based, antivirus app that is updated daily, and for the first time it found something:
It was called bk/Optix.12, and details are here:
http://www.pandasoftware.com/virus_info/encyclopedia/overview.aspx?lst=vis&idvirus=37310
Its basically a trojan that lets people take over your crap.
Its sets itself up to run everytime windows runs by adding itself to WIN.INI, SYSTEM.INI, and the Registry.
It creates two files called SPOOL32.EXE and WINAMPW.EXE. I always keep tabs of what is starting when i boot and i had disabled WINAMPW.EXE from starting but the SPOOL32.EXE must have been in there.
Pretty tricky, fockers...
I can't get Panda to load... might be because I ripped IE out of my computer and Mozilla Standalone has a time with Activex... but you did inspire me. I ran an AVG scan and everything was clean. I update the thing every few days, so I am probably cool.
I was at the McAfee website last nite and it turns out they have a free online scanner as well.
But i will stick to Panda..
